Nature School – Learning in the Great Outdoors
At Playaway’s Nature School, childhood is hands-on, adventurous, and full of wonder. Rooted in the Reggio Emilia approach, we see children as capable, curious learners and believe that the outdoors is the richest classroom of all.
Our Nature School encourages children to explore, create, and problem-solve through real-world experiences: woodworking, sewing, den-making, fire-building, and gardening on our own allotment. Daily adventures take children beyond the nursery to forage, visit the beach, explore local markets, and discover the library, helping them connect with their community and the natural world.
Classroom Art Atelier
Inside, our Art Atelier offers a calm, creative space where children can translate their outdoor discoveries into art. Using natural materials, recycled resources, and a wide range of media, they experiment with textures, colours, and techniques, developing creativity, fine motor skills, and self-expression. Projects are inspired by both nature and the children’s own ideas, making art a true reflection of their curiosity and imagination.
Children also enjoy yoga and mindful movement, supporting physical wellbeing, focus, and calm. By combining practical skills, creative play, and daily outdoor learning, our Nature School fosters independence, resilience, and curiosity, while celebrating the joys of an old-school childhood—where imagination, exploration, and discovery take center stage.
