Food and Nutrition
At our nursery, we believe that healthy food plays a vital role in children’s growth, wellbeing, and learning. We are proud to have a dedicated chef and on-site kitchen, where all meals are home-cooked daily using fresh, nutritious ingredients. Wherever possible, ingredients are locally sourced, supporting our community and ensuring the highest quality for our children.
Our menus are carefully planned to be balanced, wholesome, and full of flavour, helping children develop healthy eating habits from an early age. Mealtimes are a calm, social part of the day where children are encouraged to serve themselves, supporting independence, confidence, and self-care skills. Food is enjoyed in small key family groups, creating a warm, familiar atmosphere that promotes conversation, good manners, and a positive relationship with food. We cater for all dietary requirements and allergies, ensuring every child is safely supported and well nourished.
Our Team
Our nursery is a family-run business founded in 2001 by Julia & Kevin Gaskell. Julia works internationally as an early years academic expert and her ongoing research continues to inform and enhance practice at Playaway.
Playaway is led by owner Ellie Prince, who holds Early Years Teacher Status and a PGCE, bringing extensive expertise, experience, and a deep understanding of child development to the setting. Day-to-day operations are overseen by our manager, Ria Greenman, who holds a degree in Early Years Care and Education and supports both staff and children to ensure the nursery runs smoothly.
